Vacation Day 4 August 15, 2012
We left Santa Monica to head to Anaheim but first we wanted to see the Getty Center. You park at the bottom and take a Tram up to the museum. It is a huge museum with nice views of Los Angeles. Lots of walking up and down stairs to see the different levels. There are several buildings there that hold their collections. My son and I liked the Dutch and Italian paintings. We spent a few hours there. It is cool that they have Ipod touches so you can listen to a self guided tour of the museum. It was interesting looking at their collections. My son saw a painting on their Ipod touch but wasn't hanging in the museum so he was disappointed because he wanted to see it.
After we finished up we went headed to the Griffith Observatory. Talk about great views. You can see Griffith Park which is below, Los Angeles skyline and the Hollywood Sign. They shot the James Dean movie "Rebel Without a Cause" there. There were a lot of people there so we had to circle around the small parking lot many times before we found a place to park. They were parked all the way down the hill. They had their big telescope open so we got to see Saturn through it. They were trying to see Jupiter but the clouds were not cooperating so they moved the telescope to Saturn instead. There was a gorgeous sunset and once the sun goes down you can see the Los Angeles city lights. It is very pretty.
After we finished we drove to our hotel in Anaheim that is across the street from Disneyland to start our Disneyland portion of our trip. The boy hadn't been to Disneyland since he was 8 so he wanted to see it again. We were tired after a long day of driving and site seeing. Early night because we have a big day tomorrow seeing Disneyland.
