Ponyo Movie Review

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea

Hubby, the boy and I saw Hayao Miyazaki’s movie Ponyo today. Ponyo is an orange blobby magical sea creature with a human face. She is the daughter of an underwater sea wizard. She longs to be human so she travels from her home under the sea and gets caught in a boat trawlers net and is washed ashore where a little boy finds her. He names her Ponyo. The movie is geared toward young kids under 10 but the adults will enjoy the movie, too. This story is different from Hayao Miyazaki’s other movies. It is a sweet story about friendship and about why it is important to keep nature and the world in balance. We really enjoyed the movie. We have been a fan of Hayao Miyazaki’s movies since we saw “Kiki’s Delivery Service”. We have seen just about all of his movies so when this movie came out in the theaters we wanted to see it.

  1. Its been so long since I have watched a childrens movie. I am way behind times. We don't have any little ones around to enjoy them with. Maybe I can go to the theater and borrow one on the street to take in with me.
