Easter Vigil

Happy Easter! I hope you all have a great day with your families.

Last night my hubby was baptized at our church's Easter Vigil. For the last 1 1/2 years he has been attending RCIA meetings. There were 3 of them getting baptized. This is the first time I have been to an Easter Vigil. It was pretty cool. The vigil starts in darkness then we all went outside to bless the new fire and light the candle. My son held the torch that lit the paschal candle. After the candle lighting we proceeded in darkness into the church, walking behind the deacon with the lighted candle along a path of lighted cross luminaries. During the Old Testament readings they had a slide show. There was a lot of singing and celebrating. Our choir was there and sang some songs. Our priest had the Adult Cathechumens, their sponsors, Godparents and family proceeded to the Baptismal Font where he blessed it. Then he said a prayer and invited each Cathechumen one by one to the lower font. The priest and the cathecumen entered the water where they were dunked and the holy water poured on their heads. After the baptisms the rest of the congregation receives the sprinkling of baptismal water. The cathechumens
then leave to change in their white robes. They then face the congregation and the whole congregation blesses them. It was a moving ceremony but it lasted for 2 hours! Afterwards they had a reception for the cathechumens and their
families so we didn't get home until 11:00PM.

  1. I happened onto your blog and I have to say "congrats" to your hubby. My husband went through RCIA three years ago and watching him be baptized was one of the most inspirational moments I had ever been a part of.

We have not missed an Easter Vigil since and I've cried at everyone of them. It's amazing the journey these special people go on and they are amazing witnesses to the faith.

    Congrats again!
