We left for Yosemite today, the first time for my son. We were just about to leave when our friend called us because he heard there was a fire at Yosemite and there was no power. Hubby called and was told that the fire was outside of the park, not to drive in on Highway 140 and there was no power in the camp sites. So we finally get going. It took us 6 hours to drive to Yosemite. We missed the turn off in Tracy for the cut over so we went a little out of our way. We got turned around and headed back in the right direction. We got there about 4:30. It was very smoky. We checked into Curry Village but was told since there was no power they couldn't give us our tent cabin key until 5:00 so we wondered over to the dining and had some ice cream. Hung out until 5:00, got our key. There was no power in the tent cabin or the bathrooms. We couldn't find parking so we had to park a little ways away from our tent. Our tent was at the far end. After lugging our stuff to the tent cabin, we noticed a parking lot that that was closer the guy at the check in desk didn't tell us about. :( Our vacation wasn't starting off right. We went to the lodge buffet for dinner. The food was pretty good. My son enjoyed it. We hopped on the shuttle bus and took it to Happy Isles where Vernal Falls is. We hiked up and up and up and up The Mist Trail to see the water fall but never did see it. It was getting dark so we turned around and went down in the dark. Luckily we brought a flashlight. Unfortunately we didn't bring water. We finally got back to the cabin tent and went to sleep. It was a very noisy night with everyone banging close their bear boxes. I didn't sleep well at all. I kept tossing and turning all night.
