Vacation Day 2 August 13, 2012

I slept OK last night but kept waking up.  Someone left in the middle of the night.  I heard talking, a door slam and a car starting. It is very warm in here because there is no ac.  Then at 6:30am everyone was slamming their doors.  Getting a late start.  The boy slept in until 11:00am. We were going to see the Getty Museum and Griffith Observatory but they are closed on Mondays. So we are going to see 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica but we never got there so we will have to see it the next time we are down this way. We ended up going to the La Brea Tar Pits.  PU you can smell the tar when you get out of the car.  Must be the right place. LOL!  There were a lot of cool animals in the museum.
After we looked around we set off to find some lunch.  The boys wanted sushi to we ended up at Yuko Kitchen near the Tar Pits.  It is a quirky hole in the wall Japanese place on Dunsmuir near Wilshire Boulevard.  They had a few gluten free items.  I got the Chicken Rice Bowl without the soy sauce.  Grilled chicken on a bed of salad and brown rice. There was an oil that came on the side.   It was good.  Hubby got the Beef Rice plate with salad and a tomato soup.  The boy got the Beef Noodle bowl but he didn't really care for the beef which was fried hamburger with lots of cabbage.  We all got the Mint Lemonade which is their house speciality.  It was really good and refreshing. It was a slushy lemonade.  The boy didn't like the lemonade. He thought it was too minty.
Afterwards we went to Grauman's Chinese Theater to see the stars hand and foot prints in cement and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  There were too many people out so it was very hard looking at the stars and trying not to run into anybody. There were a lot of annoying people out, too.  We saw Bumble Bee from transformers, Captain Jack Sparrow, Cookie Monster, Harry Potter, Minnie Mouse out on the sidewalk. We parked at a lot that was around the corner and attached to a giant shopping mall.  There were at least 5 levels. You can see the Hollywood Sign from the mall. We went across the street to the Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store to see if they sold Disneyland tickets which they did.  The cashier suggested that we get the Pin Collector sundae and you get a collector pin which was Mickey Mouse.  So we all got a sundae. It was really good. Your choice of 2 scoops of ice cream, fudge and a gooey marshmallow topping with black and red Disney sprinkles on it.
On the way back to our room we stopped at Von's to get some groceries for tomorrow.  The boy was upset about having to pay 25 cents to use their bathroom.  It was a good day a little warm but not too bad. Oh hubby had a hissy fit about the GPS when it couldn't find Von's and his dumb IPhone couldn't find the store either.
