Cub Scout Cruise

Hubby, son and I went on a bay cruise with the Sea Scouts today. We left from the Port of Redwood City aboard the Challenger, a 95 ft ex Coast Guard cutter now manned and maintained by the Sea Scouts. As we were going out to the bay one of the two engines died and it looked for a while like we would have to turn back. Fortunately they did get it started again. Then we were off. We passed a sailboat that got stuck in the sand bar just outside of the channel. It was a gorgeous day, mild with a breeze. And even breezier once we were out in the bay, but never cold enough for a sweater. We went out under the San Mateo Bridge for a little ways before we turned back toward the port. It was a really fun cruise. They let the cub scouts steer the ship, climb down into the hull, and go down into the engine room. All of the scouts got Sea Scout Patches. Afterwards they provided us with a hot dog lunch. My son was a little hesitant when he first boarded the ship but once we got going he was fine. He was having a great time.

  1. Great picture. And your description of the day sure made me wish we had our boat back in the water this year. :(
