The boy is playing Vice Principal Doug Panch in our local art school’s production of “The
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”. I had never heard of this
musical before. It’s about a spelling bee and the kids and adults that are involved
in it. It’s intended to be performed by adults and some of the songs and
situations are a little risqué, definitely PG-13, but, oh my goodness, this
show is really, really, funny!
It’s a serious commitment for the kids. They have been
rehearsing once a week for the last 7 weeks and every day for tech week for the
last 2 weeks before the 5 run performance. We went to the opening night
performance last Thursday. The audience was in stitches!
My son’s part is very funny with him delivering dead pan lines. The rest of the cast is brilliant as well, with many fine singers and actors. Comedy! Pathos! Difficult words! It’s all there. It’s a little departure from the usual shows they perform but I think it’s one of the better shows they have done.
