The beautiful ocean and coastline inspire me to write and take photos of things I have discovered here alone and with my family.Beachcomberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13141656144437137552noreply@blogger.comBlogger408125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15211469.post-32548826299348960852017-08-03T19:45:00.001-07:002017-08-03T19:45:58.676-07:00Taking Control of My Health!

A couple months ago, hubby and I
started the Keto diet. Hubby read about this diet online and we both
decided it might be the thing to jump start our weight loss. Both
our weights have been going up and down but mostly up. So I was game
to try this. I have been feeling really tired, blah and run down.
It's nice that hubby is doing this also so it makes it easier and to
have someone keep me accountable and me with him.

We are on a modified version of the
diet. We decided not to cut out all carbohydrates completely but to
eat low carbs, staying under 20%. We do eat vegetables and a little
fruit everyday. We are using the My Fitness Pal app to track
macronutirents, calories and exercise. One of our comprises on the
Keto diet is we do allow for vegetables and some fruit everyday. We
have to be stricter with other portions of the meal.

It's hard finding something to eat that
doesn't involve carbs! You don't realize until you start reading
every label and putting every portion into My Fitness Pal just how
universal carbs and sugars are in our diet. We hardly ever eat out
now because it is so hard to find any exciting items that are low
carb and healthy, but we don't miss it much. We don't eat boxed
foods or really any processed foods. So we do more cooking and less
eating. No bread, no pasta, no rice, no bagels, no doughnuts, no
chocolate cakes. More fish, more chicken, more fruits and more
vegetables. We are also trying to limit red meat.

So the first month was rough as I
detoxed from carbs and sugar. I was tired, had brain fog and was
feeling really yucky. So after a month, I started feeling better and
I am slowly getting my energy back. Now if I could only get a good
night's sleep. I'm still not sleeping well. I have trouble falling
asleep even though I'm tired and keep half waking up though out the
night. Ugh.

My sugar and carbs cravings have
disappeared, though sometimes I still miss them, especially desserts.
It's not too bad just eating low carbs. The weight sure does come off
fast when you limit carbs and sugar. I did get stuck at 21 lbs where
I was going up and down for a week. Finally had a break through and
now I'm 23.5 lbs down. My habits are better, too. I've been snacking
less. I used to mindlessly snack on chips, etc. in between meals.
I'm trying to eat healthier things when I want a snack.

I started walking with hubby. Hubby
he's down 30 lbs and he's looking good. We both need to lose some
more. We have picked up our exercise game so we started running
again. We are using my Couch to 5K app. Since we lost some weight
it's easier to run. Imagine that! We think we should be adding some
strength training to tone our upper bodies. It feels good to be in
control of my diet and exercise. As long as we are training for a 5K
with this app we may as well sign up for a race. Now which race
should we sign up for?

So one of my sisters in law found a Groupon for 40% off
tickets to the opera Carmen. The other sisters thought that was a great deal
and we should all have a night at the opera, so that was the plan. We decided
to meet at a Lebanese restaurant nearby. Some of us were going by car and some
were taking BART. That was us. We took the train to Civic Center and started
walking. When we got to Van Ness we saw
the SILs just ahead of us so we ran to catch up and we all got to the Lebanese
place before 5:00, the time for our reservations.

So we waited for it to open, then we waited some, then we
waited some no sound, no lights, no movement of any kind. A phone call went to their voicemail and we
decided they must be closed for the holiday so went to the Japanese restaurant
next door. It was good and they were open!

After dinner we all walked a few blocks to the Opera House. My sister-in-law got Orchestra 3rd
row center tickets. Awesome seats! We were right in front of the orchestra pit
and eye level with the stage. The Opera was really good. The costumes, lighting and sets were superb. We didn’t know the story of Carmen beforehand.
It was in French and we don’t speak French but they did have supertitles with
the translation though suspiciously they would have only one line in English for
many lines of French but I’m sure we got the gist. Anyway the songs, beautifully sung, were very
familiar. Carmen’s habanera you’d recognize right away. It’s all about the fickleness of L’Amour. This production of Carmen alternates two
performers for this role. The one we saw was very good, very sexy as Carmen
should be, though she is a bad, bad girl and thinks nothing of breaking
hearts. But after all love is
fickle. The other main characters Don
Jose, her initial love interest and Escamillo, the Toreador, that she dumps him
for were also played by fine singers.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything.

We had some bad news on New Year’s Eve 2015. My hubby’s niece passed away. She was in her 30’s. She had a heart attack at home while watching
a movie with my sister-in-law. The days
since have been a blur. The family and
friends rallied around my sister-in-law.
We are not supposed to bury our children. How can a person so young die suddenly? One feels so helpless because all we can do
is be there for her. We can’t take away
or ease her pain.

My sister-in-law had her cremated. On February 21st
was my niece’s sea scattering and life celebration. The family and a few close friends met up at
the Neptune Societies boat docked at Pier 39.
The boat took us just outside of the Golden Gate Bridge to scatter her
ashes. I have never been to a sea
scattering before. It was a nice day on
the water, sunny and a little breezy.
They had put her ashes in a lovely box.
The Neptune personnel performed a quick service then we all said goodbye
before my sister-in-law and mother-in-law put her ashes into the water. We had some flowers that everyone threw in
with her. It was a lovely ceremony. After we came back in we went to one of the
restaurants near the pier to have a memorial with the people who didn’t get to
go on the boat with us. My other
sister-in-law arranged the ash scattering ceremony and the life
celebration. The restaurant is right
near the Neptune Society boat. My
sister-in-law set up a slide show of photos her with my niece-in-law favorite music playing in the background. Her step-father gave a moving eulogy. Her
friends and family, including my hubby, stepped up to share memories of her. We provided some note cards for people to
write sentiments on them and hung them up in the netting on the tribute table.
There were quite a few people at the restaurant. She was definitely loved.

My husband and I started a family tradition of having Dungeness crab on Christmas Eve. Dungeness crab and a nice loaf of crusty french bread yum! That is the perfect Christmas Eve dinner. After dinner we always watch a Holiday movie.

This year the Dungeness crab season is delayed due to large Algal blooms in the water. It is probably due to the warmer ocean waters and the El Nino event. So now we need to think of something else for tomorrow night. I think we will make homemade tempura shrimp and vegetables. At bed time we read "Twas The Night Before Christmas". My son is a teen now so he reads the story to us.

My top 5 favorite Holiday movies are:

1. Elf
2. Miracle on 34th Street -- 1947
3. The homecoming: A Christmas Story
4. A Christmas Carol -- 1951
5. The Santa Clause

What are your favorite Holiday Movies?
Tonight was the “Super Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse”. That is a mouthful to say! This is a rare astronomical phenomenon when a total lunar eclipse
combined with a super moon. I
read that the last time this happened it was in 1982. I wasn’t sure if I
would be able to see it because there were some clouds and since we are on the
West Coast, the lunar eclipse would be in progress as the moon rose. We kept going outside to check on the
moon. It finally came up over the hill
and the clouds. At first it was barely visible then it became more visible as
it rose above the clouds. It was way
cool to see. Some of my friends on
facebook didn’t get to see it because of the cloud cover. I shot some awesome pictures of it. So the
next one won’t be until 2033 so I’m glad I got a good view of this one.

For the last 3 weeks my son has been attending a theatrical
dance camp through our local performing arts school. In the camp the dancer’s focus on their
artistic expression with theater and dance.
They are learning storytelling through dance. How cool is that? They learn the choreography
in three weeks and at the end of the three weeks they have a performance. The first week of camp they audition and are
casted for various roles. The boy was cast as Mulan’s father, a Soldier and
Turkish Emperor.

Hubby and I went for a run yesterday evening. It was a warm day so there were quite a few people out walking the path at twilight. The path we like to run is near the ocean and a creek so there are some wild life animals there like wild rabbits, birds and skunks. So we ran up the path and turned around at the other end. We were running back down the hill when a baby skunk with its tail up came onto the path and sauntered over to the bushes on the other side of the path. Hubby and I stopped dead in our tracks. We didn't want to go anywhere near the skunk so we made a wide berth around it onto the dirt path that runs along the paved path. Then we booked it the rest of the way down the hill. That was a lot faster then I wanted to run. My heart was pounding. Hubby was right behind me! I had a nice cadence going before we saw the skunk. It messed up my running rhythm. I was out of sync for the rest of our run. We made it past the skunk without getting sprayed. Not sure if it had just sprayed something or it just likes walking with it's tail up. We didn't want to stick around to find out.

© COPYRIGHT 2015 Lunar Tide. Three weeks ago hubby and I started using “My Fitness Pal”
app to track our food intake. After
inputting my height and current weight, the app gives you how much calories I
should be eating per day. So far I have lost 5.5 lbs. So far this is working for me. It is pretty easy to write down everything I
eat so now I know exactly what I am eating. I noticed I am making better food
choices, tracking everything that goes into my mouth and drinking lots of
water. I am also thinking about whether
I really want have that food.

Along with tracking my food, last week I started run/jogging
again. I started at week one again using
my “Couch to 5K” app. I haven’t done any running since the beginning of the
year. It feels easier this time around.
I’m not getting side splits, tight ribs or searing pain in my lungs so I
must be in a little better shape since the last time I used the app. I’m enjoying going jogging this time and look
forward to exercising. Hubby wants to sign up for a 5K. So I think we will sign up for one after the
9 weeks is over. I also want to start
working on strengthening my upper body with hand weights.

The other evening when we were coming home from running, we
were turning down our street and a skateboard went sailing in front of our
car. We saw a guy on a skateboard turn
the corner on our left. We were
wondering where the other skateboarder was so as we drove on we saw the other guy
lying in the street not moving. People
come flying down the street so I was worried he might get run over. Hubby
stopped and asked if he was alright. I got out of the car and went over to see
if he was OK. He turned over and set he was OK. I asked him if he needed help
getting up so I helped him stand up. He
said the skateboard had slipped out from underneath him. He was limping a little. I think he probably
got the wind knocked out of him. I’m
glad he was alright.

Another Actor’s Studio summer camp finished. This year they performed “Story Theatre”. A series of stories in the Grimm Brother’s
Collection and Aesop’s Fable. Some of
the tales were dark and some of them were really funny. Six of the kids got to direct some of the
plays.
tell the king so Henny Penny sets off to
see the king. Along the way she meets other animals mostly other fowls and a
fox. The birds are eaten by the fox.
Henny Penny is left and she decides not to tell the king.
many years later he goes back home to see his parents. His parents are old. He has supper with them. Then he goes to see the Count who is his
Godfather. The count gives him 3 tasks to complete: steal his horse, steal his
bed sheet while they are sleeping and to
steal the parson and his clerk. The master thief completes all 3 tasks. The
count banishes him so he was never heard from again.
other tales. It’s amazing how they put
this all together in 3 weeks. My son loves this camp and the director. The director brings out the actors within
these kids. They all love him and look forward to being a part of his camps.

So all of a sudden yesterday afternoon I got a stomach
ache. I thought it was something I ate
but about 20 minutes later I threw up. I
went and laid down then I got sick to my stomach again. Then I got an excruciating pain in my left
side. It hurt worst then going labor. I
think I had a kidney stone. My whole
left side hurt so bad. I couldn’t find a
comfortable way to lay. I kept throwing
up. My son kept asking me if I needed
anything like peptobismal, asprin… When
hubby came home he had me take some ibuprofen, sip some ginger ale and he made
me some soup. The pain subsided after a
while. I guess the ibuprofen finally
kicked in but not after getting sick to my stomach. Finally that stopped,
too. I went to bed early but I had trouble
sleeping then about 2am I finally got to sleep and stayed asleep. The only other times I had kidney stones was
when I was pregnant and it felt like I was going into labor. I must have passed
the stone because now I’m feeling better. I took it easy today and stayed in
bed all today. I still have a little
twinge of pain but nothing like last night.
I’m glad it’s over.

I hate when I get sick like that out of the blue. One minute
I was fine then the next I was doubled over in pain and getting sick to my
stomach.
Let the summer begin. Happy Summer Solstice! It was a lovely day for a walk and to watch the sun go down on this longest day of the year. Time to think about about summer vacation. Right now we don't have any summer vacation plans. The boys is doing a couple of camps so maybe we can fit in a vacation or staycation in between camps.

This summer hubby and I are working on getting healthier. For the last 2 weeks we have been tracking our food and tyring to get in more exercise. We have also been trying to eat more fruits, vegetables, protein and low carbs. I've noticed I have a little more energy and I'm not feeling as tired. We have been walking in the evenings and hubby as started running again. I'm going to start running again. I will have to start from scratch though since I haven't done any running since January. Baby steps. I'm going to start using my "Couch to 5K" app to help me get started.

I'm glad it's summer and that it stays light out longer. When I was a kid it seemed like it stayed light until around 10:00pm. Summer vacation was longer, too. Now it's barely summer before the kids have to go back to school. Now-a-days it isn't quite that long. In my part of the world, it's not warm enough to sit outside on ones front porch on a summer night.
The boy is playing Vice Principal Doug Panch in our local art school’s production of “The
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”. I had never heard of this
musical before. It’s about a spelling bee and the kids and adults that are involved
in it. It’s intended to be performed by adults and some of the songs and
situations are a little risqué, definitely PG-13, but, oh my goodness, this
show is really, really, funny!
It’s a serious commitment for the kids. They have been

My son’s part is very funny with him delivering dead pan
lines. The rest of the cast is brilliant as well, with many fine singers and
actors. Comedy! Pathos! Difficult words! It’s all there. It’s a little departure from the usual shows
they perform but I think it’s one of the better shows they have done.

I haven't seen this fruit in our store before. Our store manager has been stocking some exotic fruits like rambutan, dragon fruit, sapote, etc. It's kind of weird looking but it tastes like a grape. It's looks like a chia pet. LOL! I had to google how to open it because I've never eaten one and I didn't know what to do with it! One needs to pull it apart from the seam then pull out the white grape shaped fruit which has a pit inside. It isn't easy getting the pit out or maybe there is a trick to it. I ended up eating around the pit because I couldn't get the fruit open. I only bought a few of them. I'm definitely going to try them again. My son wants to try the dragon fruit next.
4 levels of dancers now. These dancers
work really hard from January-May getting ready for the annual dance show. And they take a lot of dance classes during
their off time to hone their dance skills. It is amazing to see how everyone
has grown from year to year. This group of kids also get along really well
together. It’s always emotional when the
seniors graduate and leave the group but also a happy time that they are
spreading their wings and going off to
college.

My son performed the “A Wooden Boy” number which was based
on Pinocchio. This was the level iii dance and these kids know how to dance. The
choreography was simple, but sophisticated. The story simple and emotional. The dancing beautiful and moving. They had one of the girls as his maker. The
scenes between them were so tender and loving.
Afterwards everyone was coming up to him and telling him that his dancing
made them cry. He danced the pain, hurt, hope, confusion, and vulnerability. I am so proud of him. I am in awe. That kind
of expressiveness takes more than technical skill. There is a lot of depth in his dancing. He has grown so much. He’s a dancer now, not just a boy who studies
dance.

These last several months I have been feeling lost. What is my purpose? Where am I going? I’m not sure what to do. I feel like I’m drifting in the wind. I’m not sure why I’ve been feeling this way.
I was trying to explain this feeling to my husband but he doesn’t quite
understand how I feel. I don’t think it’s a mid-life crisis and I don’t think I’m
depressed. I have many blessing in my life

I enjoy my job as a School Assistant. My co-workers like me and appreciate what I
do. When my co-worker friends are talking I feel left out--I can’t hear what
they are saying because they are taller than me. One of my co-workers is my height so I have no
problem hearing her and I don’t feel left out of the conversation. On the other hand it’s an advantage being
short because it helps me interact with the kids. The kids like me and miss me
when I am not on the yard. There are about 300 kids there and I try to know
every one of them by name. A lot of them come to me to talk about things
happening in their lives. I like
interacting with the students. My job is
important and I feel good about it but it’s not the main thing in my life.

I have a nice little family consisting of me, my husband and
my son. Of course, sometimes they drive me crazy but I’m sure I drive them
crazy, also. I have a great son who I
love hanging out with and talking with him.
He enjoys hanging out and talking to me.
My boy started high school this year—I cherish seeing him grow at
school, as a person and spiritually. He’s
becoming a fine young man. For the last
14 years what I have been is his mom but he will grow up and away from me as he
should. Then what will I be?

I’ve been feeling disconnected from my mom, brother and
sisters because they all live farther away from me and each other. We
used to get together during the holidays at my parent’s house but after my dad
died it got fewer and farther in between to not at all. My mom sold our childhood home and now lives
3 hours away. We hardly get together anymore.

So that is an inventory of my life but it isn’t quite. I don’t
think there’s anything missing in my live I am just missing me. I am trying to
figure out why I am feeling lost, disconnected? .My life doesn’t suck but I don’t
know what my life is. Has anyone else felt this way? What did you do to overcome it? Or do I just need to figure it out for myself?

My son has a lot
of good things happening. He is on the frosh/soph track team, his first high
school sport. They have been practicing every day after school for more than a
month. Last week was their first meet, an away game so I didn’t get to see it. Our
school has some fantastic runners but it’s a comparatively small team and they
lost the meet. My boy ran in the 4x100m (a close 2nd place) and the 400m
(not his distance but a good time). It
was a long day for them; they arrived back at school around 7:15pm.

He also likes
acting, and would usually be doing a play with a local performing arts school,
but decided not to because of the track schedule. This last Friday I received a
call from the school asking him to please come in and audition at the callbacks
because they needed him We discussed it,
looked at his schedule, printed out a resume (no time for music or a head shot)
and went down to the callbacks. They posted the cast list on Saturday night and
he got a part. It actually works out perfect because the rehearsals are on a
day that he is able to leave track practice a little early and the shows are
after he gets out of school for the year.

Back to track.
His second meet was last Thursday, a home game and a hot day. This one I got to
see. It was the first track meet I’d ever been to and a lot of fun. My husband and I sat in the bleachers in
front of the track. The field events
were going on at the same time but we were interested in the foot races. It was
fun to see boys and girls that I have known since kindergarten turned into such
athletes. We cheered for everyone. I get pretty loud especially when the races
are close. We cheer for the last runner, too. The effort to finish a 3200m race
deserves cheering. My boy ran the 100m and 200m this time and did very well.
The frosh/soph boys won their meet and the frosh/soph girls lost by only one
point, though they have one dominating freshman runner – expect great things
from her.

He has been very busy
running, dancing and going to school. He
is looking forward to Spring Break—he will only have dance and track practices. He is enjoying being on the track team. With all of the things he has going on, I’m
proud of him for keeping his grades up.

All year I have been thinking about what I was going to do
for my hubby’s 60th birthday in January. My sister-in-law and I decided
to throw him a surprise 60th birthday party. We had it at a local
restaurant that is down the coast from us at the harbor. We got one of their party packages and had it
one of their semi-private rooms.

When the big day finally arrived, I told him his sister texted
me and wanted us to meet her and his other sister at the restaurant to
celebrate my birthday which is 7 days after hubby’s. When he walked into the room he wasn’t sure
what was going on since all he noticed was his sisters and mom. Then everyone said surprise and he turned and
saw his friends on the other side of the room. Too bad my family lives too far away so they
were unable to attend. We achieved total
surprise—he never had a clue! He was
smiling all evening, chatting with his friends and enjoying the fantastic food.

We went with the sit down dinner package--Crispy Calamari,
Artichoke Hearts and Beer Brat Pops appetizers, Mavericks Clam Chowder and Mini
Pear Salad starter, Fresh Seasonal Catch, Garden Harvest Ravioli, Flat Iron
Steak and Chicken Parmigiana entrée and for dessert Chef’s Dessert Bites. We had an open bar up to a certain amount.
The food was really good. Everybody had a great time. We even ran into a few local people we knew.

Afterwards, we went to check out the bar because they had a
live band playing which was really good. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay and
dance because hubby’s leg has been hurting him so he couldn’t stand on it for
long.

Well hubby and I finished the Hot Chocolate 5K this
morning. The boy ran it in 28:57. I am so out of shape. I ran walked it. More walking than running! I haven’t done any running for about a
month.

We got there about 6:30ish. It was still dark out. My
sister-in-law dropped us off and we walked in to the where the race
started. There were tons of people at
the race. After hitting the porta
potties we headed over to the start line.
They had corrals set up for the different paced runners. Hubby dropped
the boy off at his corral. We couldn't get into ours because there were so many
people that they were blocking the entrance so we went in at the beginning corral. They started the corrals in waves which made
it easier to start the race. There was a
big swarm of people in our corral.

Finally we got to the start line. I jogged a bit. I was running so slow hubby was able to walk
with me! LOL! It started downhill then it went up hill for
a long way then downhill and the last was a long uphill. Even though I have been in the park where
they held the race, I wasn't sure where we were. It took a while for the crowd to thin
out. I was feeling claustrophobic with
everyone so close to us. All the runners
were in the back and they were being annoying by darting in and out of the
crowd to pass people.

The weather was cool and overcast. I did get a little warm
so I took off my jacket but I had to stop and take off my race bib from my
jacket to put on my leg so that cost us a minute. I ran too long after the stop and I got a
side stitch that lasted a while.

The water station was a little chaotic. The first few tables were Gatorade and the
rest was water. It was hard to get to
the station since the volunteers were standing out far enough to pass out the
stuff. I wanted a Gatorade water mix but
I didn't come across it so I mixed my own.

My legs felt like rubber at we passed the 2 mile mark. I
still ran and jogged. I did run the last
way to finish line. It took us 1:03 and
1:04 hours to walk/jog this race. I need
to get back into shape. I thought I was going to die. At the post race party, everyone got a giant
mug with hot chocolate in the center, a green banana, hot fudge in a small
compartment and the bigger compartment held a rice crispy, a marshmallow, tiny pretzels which
were too small to dunk in the chocolate and a wafer cookie. Hubby and I didn’t keep our mugs but the boy
did. It isn’t very useful. I guess you
can use it for a snack bowl but we don’t have room for three of them.

We were tired and sleepy after the race. Hubby and I couldn't move. Our legs felt like
jelly. My asthma kicked in so I used my inhaler but it took a while for the
wheezing and shortness of breath to go away.
I took a nap when I got home but I am still tired.

It was a fun race but I’m not sure I would do this one
again. I like the smaller races.

My son will be running it. Hubby and I will be walking it because hubby's leg hurts and I was sick during the holidays and haven't done any running for a while. The race is sold and there are a lot of people we know running it which is cool. Our town represents! I'm bummed I can't run it though. There is always next year.

After this race I get out there and start running again. I bet I will have to build up again.

We picked up our race bib and goodie bag today at the Expo. Sweet swag with this race. Not only do you get a lot of chocolate at the race but you get a way cool hoodie and draw string bag. The hoodies are comfy and warm. The women's has a pink accent and the men's has a green accent.
So I had an um interesting thing happen last Thursday. For a few weeks now I have been having
chapped lips. My lips finally got
better. Last Thursday was my work
Christmas party at a local restaurant where I have eaten before. I ordered Sloppy Tots plate to share with my
friend and co-worker. The portion is
huge. It was a very yummy dish tater tots with sloppy joe mixture with slivered
scallions on top and a bit of cheese.
The only thing I had to drink was ice water.

We also did a gift exchange where we picked a number then we
got to go up to pick a present. We could
steal a present twice. Anyway I ended up
with a 1980’s decade candy box. After I got home I ate some of the candy before
I went to bed.

I kid you not when I woke up the next morning my lips were
huge and a little crusty around the edges. Like botox on steroids! My upper lip
was rashy, raw and they hurt. I think I
had an allergic reaction to something. I was thinking from the restaurant. I put some ice on them but it didn’t really
help with the swelling just numbed it a bit.
I finally took Benadryl but I only took one because I was going to work
and I didn’t want to be drowsy at work. Everyone was worried that I had an
allergic reaction to something even the kids were worried. The Benadryl finally kicked in about an hour
later and my swollen lips went down a bit.

I took Benadryl before I went to bed Friday night and when I
woke up the next day my lips were still a little swollen. I took some more Benadryl every 4 hours and
basically slept all day. I felt like crap.

Sunday they were still a little swollen so I took Benadryl
every 4 hours and slept all day. I was still feeling like crap.

Monday when I woke up my lips were a little back to
normal. I still had the rash above my
lip but it is slowly fading. I was
feeling much better today. Two days
until Christmas time to put up and decorate a tree.
My son was not feeling well a few weeks ago. Sneezing, running nose and coughing. He had a fever a couple of weekends ago but it didn't last. He's over his cold I guess that's what it was.

Now I've been under the weather. I had a sore throat a week ago, snuffly nose and a tickle cough. I hate when I get that tickle cough. This week I'm not feeling bad but not that great either. I was tired over the weekend so I spent all day in bed sleeping. On Monday I thought I was going to lose my voice because I had that sexy voice thing going. LOL! I am not sleepy well because I keep waking up at 4:30am coughing. My cough syrup keeps wearing off at 4:30am. Ugh. I still have a cough and my voice sounds better today. I feel a little better. Thank goodness. A lot of the kids at school are coughing, too.

© COPYRIGHT 2015 Lunar Tide. Day 1 Writing Prompt

Today’s prompt is celebrating the unique activities we love during autumn.

What are some of the activities you love to do in the fall?

What are some of the traditions you have for the three months before winter hits?

I love the fall season we don't get the fall colors and fall activities here though. I would have to drive an hour or so away to do fall activities. If I could do fall activities it would be seeing the fall colors, picking apples, going to fall festivals. Going to the pumpkin farm. It would be nice if there was more fall activities in my area.

During the fall I like to make hot chocolate or get the salted caramel hot chocolate from star bucks. I also like to make soups and stews for dinner on those chilly fall nights.

I attended my first memorial paddle out today.

A friend’s husband passed away last weekend. Before they moved out of the area a few years
ago he had been active in the city council and served as mayor. He did a lot of
things for our town.

He was also an avid surfer so the surfing community wanted
to gather to say goodbye to him. The local surfing club that he belonged to
organized the paddle out. They had an
altar on the beach with some flowers and some pictures of him, and a table with
food and drink. There had been only a week to get the word out but a lot of his
surfer friends were there and townspeople and former council members and other
people who had worked with him in the city. Many of them had very moving words
to say at the memorial.

Then the surfers paddled out and formed a circle holding
hands and exchanged stories of him. Then they put the flowers and leis in the
water. Everyone in the circle tossed
water in the air as per tradition. I
think paddle outs are a cool tradition.
I’ve only seen them done on TV. A
very spiritual moment. Those who didn’t go out in the water stayed on the shore
to watch.

It was a very lovely and beautiful memorial. Young and old
were there to pay their respects. It was
nice seeing my friend and her boys but I wish it had been under happier circumstances.

Today hubby, the boy and I went to Burlingame to look at a
new running shoe store and maybe get new running shoes. But first we wanted to go to T-Pumps. It’s a
popular store that serves bubble tea (also called boba tea, for the tapioca
balls at the bottom of the cup). This
was the first time we have been to T-Pumps or had bubble tea. There was a line to the door and it took a
while to get up to the register. Hubby got the pineapple coconut, I got the
green tea with peach and the boy got green tea with chocolate cherry. We all got the boba with it. Boba has a strange consistency, soft and
chewy, and sized to just fit the oversized straws when you suck them up.

The boy wanted to go the Vans store to get a pair of
shoes. He finally found a pair he liked.
Then we mosied down to A runners Mind running store, where we all ended up with
new Brooks shoes. The customer service
was excellent. The sales people were
very attentive. They knew exactly what
kind of running shoes we needed.

We were hungry so we hunted for some food. The boy wanted pizza
so we ended up going to Blue Line Pizza.
It is a pizza sports bar kind of place.
A little loud. We ordered a
sausage, mushroom and bell peppers deep dish pizza. We have never had a deep dish pizza before. Hubby and the boy liked the pizza. I didn’t like all the chunky tomatoes on top
of the pizza. Otherwise it was pretty
good.

I didn’t get a chance to go to the Jougert store that is
across the street from the T-Pumps store.
Next trip. We were full and it was getting late.
